In 1985, after moving from Dallas where I worked as a
private investigator for many years, the relaxed
atmosphere of South Padre Island brought out my more
creative side! Work began to bring the world's leading
environmental artist, Wyland, to South Padre Island to
paint one of his masterpieces on the South Padre Island
Convention Centre which is now the home of Whaling Wall
#53. Efforts were combined with the South Padre Island
Community Foundation and 100 local volunteers to
accomplish this endeavor which is one of South Padre
Island's most popular tourist attractions. Self-described as
a "career volunteer", I have had the pleasure to continue
service with the South Padre Island Community
Foundation since 1991 and am currently Vice-President.
The Texas International Fishing Tournament, the largest
such tournament in the state of Texas and held in Port
Isabel, has had my participation since 1995 as an advisory
board member. Other interests in the past have been the
South Padre Island Beautification Committee (10 yrs), the
Rio Grande Music Festival (3 yrs), the Valley Proud
Environmental Council (2 yrs), served on the Property
Listing Service Board for the South Padre Island area (2
yrs.) which was the precursor for the current South Padre
Island Board of Realtors, was an original team member of
the South Padre Island Recycling Center, and volunteered
with the American Red Cross. You may wonder why all of
the extra curricular activities?! For many reasons I have
always enjoyed volunteering but from a real estate
perspective, I firmly believe that doing one's part to
provide a clean environment, attractive surroundings, and
quality activities for families to enjoy makes it easier to
welcome new buyers to the South Padre Island, Texas
area and it assists a South Padre Island seller to market an
existing property. It just goes hand in hand!
